The Azerbaijani Boxing Federation and the Amateur International Boxing Association (AIBA) signed a contract in connection to the Baku Youth Boxing Championship.

The agreement was signed by ABF President Kamaladdin Heydarov and AIBA President Ching-Kuo Wu.

The AIBA president said that the President's Cup Competition held in Baku has demonstrated ABF's high organizational ability.

"We have given the right to Baku to organize the 2010 Youth World Championship. Baku will host the competition not only in the AIBA version, but also in the WSB," he added.

According to him, the world championship will be the largest youth tournament in the history of boxing. About 659 boxers from 106 countries have been registered to participate in the competitions to be held April 23-May 1.

The semifinals and finals will be broadcasted live in all participating countries. The championship will define winners of 44 licenses for the Olympic Games in Singapore.

He said that 10 boxers from Armenia are expected to take part in the competition.

"The Azerbaijani government has guaranteed their safety," he added.

Heydarov named the holding of the youth boxing championship in Baku a great event.

"Our sporting achievements are a reality. The ABF has gone a long way, however, for some reason it has not achieved good results in recent years. The president of the National Olympic Committee has given special instructions for the development of the ABF and we are confident that we will soon witness a major breakthrough. The document signed today demonstrates the great attention paid by the AIBA to the Azerbaijani boxing. I hope that the Azerbaijani boxing will continue to develop and our boxers will raise our flag high at the Olympics," he added.
