The 28-year-old double Olympian Bradley Hore of Queensland won his sixth national title at the 80th Australian Men's Championships, held in Canberra for senior, youth, junior and schoolboy boxers. Hore, the only Australian to compete at the 2000 Sydney Olympics who is still active at this level, won the final 7:3 against former national champion Jason Moloney of Victoria.

With several of Australia's best boxers taking part in the AIBA President's Cup it was an opportunity for others to shine. The 18-year-old Sam Ahsee was named Best Boxer of the Tournament after defeating Brandon Groves 12:1 in the 69kg final.

One of the closest finals was at light-heavyweight where Sam Blyth and title-holder Steve Lovett drew 3:3, Blyth taking the title on individual scores. David Pisani (51kg) of Dubbo acquired his first national title after a one-sided victory over Sam Williams of Queensland, while 21-year-old Mostyn Niemann (91kg), who competed in the AIBA World Championships in Milan, successfully defended his title.

Among the junior boxers 16-year-old AIBA Junior World Championships bronze medalist Joseph Nicholls broke his hand in the first round of the final but he went on and finished the bout, which he lost on points to Daniel Lewis
