Boxing At The 12th Pan Arab Games

The 12th quadrennial Pan Arab Games are currently taking place in Doha, Qatar from December 6 to 23, 2011. This is the first time that the country has hosted the multi-sport event. Khalifa Stadium is the main venue for the competition. About 3,000 athletes from 21 countries will compete in 33 events in this edition of the games.
Khalifa Stadium was chosen to be the focal point of the games, hosting the opening and closing ceremonies. The stadium was previously used for the 2006 Asian Games and 2011 AFC Asian Cup.
Syrian athletes are noticeable missing from this edition of the Arab games in protest at the Arab League’s move to suspend Damascus and impose economic and political sanctions.
Boxing at the 2011 Pan Arab Games will be held between the 14th and 21st of December at the ASPIRE Dome which is an indoor sporting arena located in Doha, Qatar, and the home of the ASPIRE Academy for Sports Excellence. The ASPIRE academy is a part of the Aspire Zone which also houses the Khalifa Stadium. Its motto is: 'Aspire Today, Inspire Tomorrow'.

- The Egyptian national boxing team has been preparing to the upcoming 12th Arab Games under the careful supervision of their experienced Cuban Head Coach Julio Lee Hechevarria. With competitors in each weight class they will be targeting at least two gold medals. With a strong pedigree in the sport since securing one silver and two bronze medals at the 2004 Athens Summer Olympic Games, the North African country will look to impress in Doha
