International Boxing Hall of Fame
Last Sunday (13 June) in Canastota NY - (USA).
At the annual weekend ceremony for new inductees to the International Boxing Hall of fame, during which boxers get the opportunity to cast their fists in concrete.
Danny “Little Red” Lopez was the first to get his fist cast on Friday afternoon. He was followed by fellow inductees Ed Schuyler Jr., Larry Hazzard and Jung-Koo Chang.
Lopez got his start as a boxer in 1971 and steadily became a Southern Californian boxing sensation after winning his first 21 fights by knockout. He officially entered the boxing history books after he traveled to Ghana and beat David Kotei to become the World Featherweight Champion on Nov. 6, 1976 — a title he defended successfully until Feb. 2, 1980. He retired shortly thereafter. Throughout his career, Lopez had 42 wins, 39 of which were by KO, and 6 losses.
The museum in Canastota has cast the powerful hands of more than 200 boxing legends, including Basilio and Robinson as well as Muhammed Ali, Joe Frasier and Marvelous Marvin Hagler.
The finished product is bronzed and shows details from fingernails to wrinkles. The resulting copper hands are lifelike, from wrinkles to fingernails.
